Job Description:

Overview

TD Wealth Operations, part of Wealth National Office, is the operational engine of TD Wealth. Supporting all TD Wealth distribution channels, TD Mutual Funds, TD Asset Management, and TD Securities, our goal is to be recognized as an industry leader in Operational Excellence, delivering legendary partner and client experiences, enhancing productivity, and effectively managing risk and controls.

As an Operations Specialist, Tax Reconciliations, you will oversee the timely remittance of withholding taxes and non-resident withholding taxes and reconciliation with tax authorities (CRA/MRQ/IRS). The Specialist is responsible for reviewing, analyzing and reconciling tax data across multiple systems and accounts to ensure accurate CRA and IRS tax reporting. The Specialist will be responsible for many aspects of reconciliation functions including exception identification, distribution, and reporting.

Job Accountabilities
  • Oversee the reconciliation and review of Canadian and US Tax withholding and remittance, data reconciliation between reports and CRA remittances, notice of assessments, etc.
  • Manage QI WITHHOLDING TAX Reconciliations, backup withholding taxes and remittances to IRS, including balancing of 1042S forms received from other financial institutions vs. those issued by TDW
  • Investigate and resolve data variances, ensuring root cause analysis and documentation of findings
  • Collaborate with the tax team to ensure complete and accurate tax reporting are distributed to clients and remitted to relevant tax authorities (CRA, MRQ, IRS)
  • Execution and maintenance of withholding tax remittances and reconciliations with Canadian tax authorities of applicable withholding and non resident tax accounts.
  • Continuous monitoring and organization of functions performed by the Operation Officers ensuring prompt break investigation, assignment of breaks and raising of critical issues to Tax Operations team.
  • Investigate and resolve reconciliation issues and delays, ensure prompt/efficient resolution of breaks across a variety of Tax reconciliations (federal/provincial withholding tax accounts, non resident withholding tax, IRS withholding tax accounts, etc. ) to avoid any loss to the bank or our clients
  • Ensure reconciliation activities meet all internal and external regulatory/audit requirements and satisfy all internal control standards
  • Give to the success of the team by willingly assisting others in the completion and performance of work activities, provide training, mentorship and/or guidance as appropriate.
  • Daily collaboration with Tax operations and cross functional teams across Wealth National Office to resolve breaks, find opportunities and work toward the shared goal of risk mitigation
  • Raise operational issues to management team as in when identified and assist with investigation of root causes and resolution.
  • Develop an innovation culture and mindset by challenging the status quo, identifying efficiencies, recommend improvements and participate in initiatives (both strategic and small change)
  • Interfacing with tax authorities for ongoing correspondence and remediation

Job Requirements
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Wealth Operations, Tax Reporting, or Registered Products.
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian registered products and associated tax reporting, experience with withholding and remittance processes.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills to meet tight deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and technical skills for resolving account outages and conducting complex investigations
  • Ability to build relationships and communicate complex issues to diverse business partners.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills across teams and stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Excel; experience with Alteryx, macros, or VBA is an asset.

  • Undergraduate degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or related discipline.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Continuous improvement mindset and ability to adapt to evolving regulatory requirements.
