Department Overview

The TD Retail Risk Management Credit Card and Personal Lending (RRM CC & PL) Strategy team is responsible for the development and execution of CC and PL automated credit adjudication strategies and initiatives that assist our product partners to achieve growth and profitability targets while maintaining the overall credit risk quality of CC and PL lending portfolio and ensuring portfolio performance within risk appetite. Accountabilities include providing effective challenges on CC and PL Portfolio, as well as designing, implementing, and monitoring credit risk strategies.

Job Description

Reporting to Senior Manager, Credit Card Account Management, this role will provide analytical thought leadership and support for credit risk initiatives related to Cards Account Management, including automated risk decisions (ARDs), either through reactive adjudication decisions or proactive Pre-approval Offers. The successful candidate will work in a fast-paced and results-oriented environment and will be part of a learning culture where ongoing development is encouraged. Specific accountabilities include:

• As a Credit Risk Specialist, you will leverage your understanding of consumer credit behaviour to investigate, create, implement, and validate various strategies, credit risk models and policies through developing business cases, performing pre and post implementation monitoring and reporting to ensure targets are achieved.

• Gain a deep understanding over complex automated credit decision systems and strategy engines. Translate data driven insights into technology solutions that give the ability to operate and control retail credit strategies to manage credit risk.

• Through advanced analytics involving big data - data collection, wrangling, and exploration - apply statistical techniques to proprietary data to identify features, characteristics, or signals that inform and enable discrimination of credit risk or serve as a leading indicator of potential change in credit risk.

• Work collaboratively with stakeholders and partners to design and recommend solutions - potentially including new decision tools and segmentation, that improve the understanding and quantification of risk. Play an active role in supporting engagement of senior management in socializing and gaining formal approval of recommendations.

• Perform detailed analysis and interpret information to make recommendations to Senior Management and Executives on critical strategies including non-standard and ad-hoc requests as determined by management.

• Through advanced analytics and data mining, translate insights into knowledge to assess and provide effective challenge on the health of the Credit Card portfolio and strategies. Support Risk Management Points of View to inform management of increasing and emerging risks.

• Work effectively with internal stakeholders, including line of business and technology partners, to support / lead the identification, development, implementation and monitoring of strategies and programs, including potentially leading special project teams or cross functional work groups.
• Monitor strategies, using all appropriate quantitative methods and reporting tools, provide insight on variances and make recommendations to further the achievement of Credit Card Lending business objectives, while controlling delinquency and losses within the approved risk appetite and produce those reports on a regular basis.
• Demonstrate governance and control, as well as risk management behaviors in alignment with TD policies and practices.
• Become an SME on the operational aspects of adjudication engine where automated strategy is hosted.

Job Requirements

This role requires a combination of technical skills, project management, business knowledge and interpersonal skills:

Technical and Analytical Skills:

• Experience in data analysis either from a business administration, statistical, mathematical, scientific, or financial background is required

• High Proficiency in SQL, Python, PySpark, and SAS as well as Microsoft Azure or similar and Tableau or similar. Proficiency in predictive modeling and decision tree development would be considered an asset
• Strong analytical ability and problem-solving skills are required to interpret data and draw conclusions
• High Proficiency in MS Office: Excel (including pivot tables), PowerPoint, Word. Proficiency in MS VBA would be considered an asset

• Acute attention to detail to solve problems and overcome challenges

Business Knowledge:

• Advanced knowledge and understanding of credit products
• Experience developing and presenting recommendations to senior management

• Understanding of credit risk management strategies, policies, and processes

Interpersonal Skills and Project Management:

• Strong ownership mentality and a can-do attitude

• Strong presentation and communication skills
• Flexibility to adapt to rapidly changing requirements
• Proven ability to develop and maintain productive business / peer relationships, including superior communication, interpersonal, and influencing skills in a fast-paced dynamic environment.

Education and Accreditation

Post-Secondary degree: Statistics / Applied Mathematics / Actuarial Sciences, Commerce / Business degree, Engineering, Economics is preferred. MBA or similar Master's degree would be considered an asset. Prior work experience will be considered as an alternative to the listed academic credentials.
