DRS PIVOTAL POWER INC., Located in Halifax, Nova Scotia, is a leader in the development and manufacture of high reliability power conversion equipment for mission critical military applications. DRS Pivotal Power is part of the Naval Electronics Canada Group.



Reporting to the Engineering Manager, this role will be responsible to lead the mechanical design of power conversion products.  You will also provide direction and technical input on mechanical packaging, structural evaluation/simulation, environmental survivability and design for manufacturability.

Major Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Familiarity with the application of military and commercial standards to mechanical designs is required

  • Proven ability to take a lead role in mechanical design of power conversion products

  • Take developed concepts or designs, and complete to the detailed level

  • Create, manage and edit qualification test reports and subcontractor document requirements

  • Assist in the creation and management of ILS requirements, including technical manuals and other supporting documentation

  • Generates ECNs under guidance

  • Performs structural and thermal design analyses

  • Works independently or alongside other engineers

  • Must develop technically sound work within prescribed time frames

  • Multiplex between different projects and delivers on commitments

  • Ability to conceptually link macro level project plans to micro level tasks

  • Ability to demonstrate flexibility to meet business demands

  • Ability to investigate solutions to product or process problems

 Technical Competencies:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or equivalent with 10 or more years of experience in mechanical design in a light manufacturing environment
  • Experience with packaging of electrical and electronic equipment preferred

  • Familiarity with the application of military and commercial standards to mechanical designs is required.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude

  • Excellent technical writing skills

  • Recent experience using CAD software, preferably SolidWorks 3D software

  • Experience in structural and thermal design analysis
