The Chester Playhouse is an artistic hub, specializing in the presentation of exceptional live performances, which serves the Municipality of Chester, including the village of Chester and surrounding communities.  Operating since 1939, we have been a home for music, theatre, films, comedy, speakers and emerging community performances, and continue to present world-class artists from “around the corner” and around the world. Following a fire which damaged our existing Playhouse building, we are quickly pivoting to a “satellite” context, presenting live shows in various venues across our community, in a program we’re calling the “Playhouse Without Walls”.

Marketing Lead & Administrator

Brief description:
The Marketing Lead carries responsibility for all marketing efforts of the organization. They are an integral part of the development and execution of plans to reach our marketing targets, including brand awareness, community engagement, and promotion of live events.  They also support the Executive Director through collaborative work on administrative projects - including grant writing and reporting, event production, and overseeing seasonal or contract staff.

Reports to: Executive Director  

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Executive Director and the rest of the team in the development  themes, values and messaging for each season of event programming.

  • Promote Chester Playhouse events and engage with community members through company social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram).

  • Design and create promotional materials such as posters, flyers, paper advertisements and content for online use.

  • Write marketing and communications material for various platforms such as press releases, newsletters, brochures, programs and website material.

  • Manage paid marketing initiatives (ads in print and social media). 

  • Support Playhouse initiatives for fundraising and special events.

  • Keep the website updated with shows, events and information as needed.

  • Contact sponsors and advertising clients for summer program-specific advertising opportunities.

  • Aid in the completion of specific administrative tasks in collaboration with the Executive Director.


  • Excellent design skills and being comfortable using Photoshop and InDesign (or similar).

  • Well-developed understanding of publishing features through social media platforms.

  • Excellent computer software skills including MS Office programs and G Suite. 

  • Well-developed communications skills.

  • Organizational and time management skills.

  • Experience using Hootsuite, Mailchimp, and WordPress would be an asset. 

  • Experience with SEO optimization, marketing analytics, and audience evaluation would be an asset.

  • Self-starter who is comfortable working on projects independently.

Other Requirements:

Hours per week: 35

Salary: $18/hour

Additional Notes: 

You will be working a flexible 35/hour work week with rare evening and weekend events. Normal working hours will be specified in advance in collaboration with the Executive Director.
